Students should be prepared to make full use of the allotted practice time. Other class activities include discussion of theory, rhythm, sight-reading, and music history. There will also be opportunities for ensemble playing, classroom performance and outside performance. A public performance on Wednesday, July 16th and on July 18th during the final performance. Students should be prepared to work on a solo or duet that will be performed in the final show.
During auditions on registration day, students will be given a written test on music theory. Students will then be placed in either the Theory I or Theory II class depending on their knowledge of music theory. Registered students must submit a tape containing any recently studied piece from their repertoire. The tape is for placement purposes only. (if you have questions about intermediate level of achievement please contact the YMA office for more detailed information.)
